Prague, Jan 25 (CTK) – The Czech mergers and acquisitions market showed declines in both the volume and number of transactions in 2020, with a total of 69 deals carried out in 2020 as opposed to 92 the previous year, according to data from consulting company TPA and the Mergermarket database.

The purchase price was disclosed in 15 cases and the deals were worth Kc134.5bn in total. In 2019, the purchase price was disclosed in 22 cases and the total value topped Kc160bn.

Once coronavirus restrictions were put in place and business activities were reduced in the spring of 2020, the number of transactions plunged steeply yr/yr in individual quarters.

Real estate companies only conducted two transactions but accounted for most of the total value known (45 percent) in 2020. They were followed by financial services with three transactions and a 20 percent share.

Most transactions were carried out in the industrial production and services (12) and computer software (eight) sectors.

The number of transactions has been rising in Central and Eastern Europe in the long term, with almost 6,000 deals concluded since 2008. The most active states include Poland (29 percent), Austria (20 percent) and Czechia (18 percent). The number of transactions disclosed in 2020 (120) was a 12-year low.
